Batik Block Printing

This is amongst the earliest better-known batik forms in Malaysia. Pieces of wooden blocks with embossed patterns are stamped by hand on the fabric using natural based block pigment.

This early technique is also known as block stamping or block printing. A carved stamping block is used to create the batik design. It's also known as a 'flower nest or block'. Previously the block is made from carved wood is made from carved wood with embossed pattern.

Lately, the block is fashioned from metal (brass or sometimes zinc). The clarity and perfection of design is better with metal block.
