The Cathedral of St. Mary the Virgin
The Cathedral of St. Mary is one of the oldest Anglican churches in Malaysia. Built in 1894 by the British colonial administration, it is located near to Dataran Merdeka and it is an historical building in Kuala Lumpur, also a picturesque English country church.
A fine example of early English gothic architecture, it started off as a simple timber building in the 19th-century but quickly transformed into a beautiful whitewashed structure with stained glass windows, tasselled tile paving and buttresses. In the old days, the church welcomed the city’s European inhabitants every Sunday, and when the service was over they then went to the Royal Selangor Club, which still stands next door.
